When do SQE1 results come out?
July 2026 SQE1 results were released on 8 September 2026. The SRA published the statistical report on 29 September 2026: the cohort pass rate was 42%. This page explains what the result shows, what the numbers mean and what to do next, whether or not you passed.

What you get on results day
- A result for each paper. FLK1 and FLK2 each have their own pass mark, and you must pass both to pass SQE1.
- A pass mark set for that sitting. The SRA’s assessment board sets each FLK’s mark using statistical equating, so the standard stays constant even when the paper’s difficulty varies. There is no fixed percentage to aim at.
- Quintiles. Your result shows which fifth of the cohort you fell in — useful context beyond pass/fail.
- The cohort pass rate comes later. The SRA publishes it in the statistical report for the sitting. For July 2026 that came on 29 September 2026, at 42%, and it is in our pass-rate dataset.
Your result is in — what now
If you passed: your next step is SQE2. A passed FLK stands and is not resat. All SQE assessments must still be passed within the six-year window that started with your first one.
If you did not: you can resit. In July 2026, 58% of candidates did not pass. You keep any part you have already passed, so if FLK1 went through and FLK2 did not, you resit FLK2 only.
The next sitting is FLK1 on 11–15 January and FLK2 on 18–22 January 2027. The fee is £1,003 if you are resitting one FLK, or £2,006 for both, under the SRA fees for assessments from September 2026 onwards. The January 2027 papers also have fewer questions in the same time: 170 each, sat as two 85-question sessions of 2 hours 33 minutes.
The SRA’s seat reservation form for January was sent on 22 September 2026 and closed on 24 September 2026. If you did not complete it, a limited number of seats can be booked directly in your SQE account from 19 November 2026 (10am) to 23 November 2026 (5pm), subject to availability. Candidates with reasonable adjustments must not book this way. Booking closes on 23 November 2026. If you completed the diversity survey before, the SRA says it has been updated: you must go back to it, reconfirm your answers and complete the new section at the end, or you cannot book your next assessment. When did the July 2026 SQE1 results come out?
On 8 September 2026, after 11am UK time. The SRA emailed candidates a link to the result in their SQE account. The SRA published the statistical report for the July 2026 sitting on 29 September 2026: the pass rate was 42% (47% for first-time candidates).
How are SQE1 results reported?
You get a result for each paper. FLK1 and FLK2 each have their own pass mark. The SRA’s assessment board sets it for each sitting using statistical equating, so the mark needed reflects that paper’s difficulty against a constant competence standard. Results also show quintiles — which fifth of the cohort your performance fell in. You must pass both FLKs to pass SQE1.
What is the SQE1 pass mark?
There is no fixed pass mark. Each FLK’s pass mark is set per sitting against a consistent standard, which is why it is not published in advance and varies between sittings.
What happens if I fail SQE1?
You can attempt each SQE assessment up to three times within six years, paying the fee each time. The next SQE1 sitting is January 2027: FLK1 runs 11–15 January 2027 and FLK2 runs 18–22 January 2027.
