SQE1 January 2027 revision plan
This page is for candidates sitting SQE1 in January 2027 who want to organise the weeks before the exam. There are 76 days (10 weeks and 6 days) before the FLK1 window opens on Monday 11 January 2027. Below is a suggested plan, with each week dated, that follows the new grouped sessions. Treat it as a starting point and adjust it to your own weak areas.
Sitting dates, format and law cut-off checked against the SRA on 7 October 2026. The plan itself is Lawdojo’s suggestion, not an SRA requirement.

How the plan is built
The subjects are taken in the order of the SRA’s sessions. From January 2027 each session tests a fixed group of subjects, and the questions from those subjects appear in random order. So when the last subject in a session group is finished, the plan adds a timed set that mixes all of that session’s subjects, which is the closest practice to how the questions will arrive on the day.
FLK1 subjects come first because FLK1 is sat first, and finishing them early leaves time for a full FLK1 mock paper before the FLK2 subjects are complete. Within each session, the subjects that need the most time come first. Business Law and Practice has a week to itself because its syllabus combines company and partnership law, insolvency and the taxation of businesses and their owners. Land Law comes before Property Law and Practice because conveyancing relies on Land Law concepts such as registered title, easements, covenants and leases. Solicitors Accounts appears twice because the SRA tests it in the context of wills in FLK2 session 1 and in the context of property in session 2.
A subject studied early is revisited in every later mixed set and in both rounds of mock papers. If your baseline shows that a different subject is your weakest, move it earlier for that reason.
Each subject week follows the same routine. Learn a topic from your notes, answer questions on it the same day, and read the worked answer for every question you got wrong or guessed. Answering questions shows whether you can apply a rule to facts, which re-reading the notes does not. In each subject, note the professional conduct points that arise in it, because Ethics and Professional Conduct can be tested in any subject and any session.
The mock papers are spread out so that each one can be reviewed, and acted on, before the next. The last two weeks contain no new subjects: a topic first met in the final days has no time to be revisited, so that time is better spent on the weak areas the mocks reveal and on pacing.
Your week-by-week plan
Fewer than 8 weeks remain for subject study, so the plan below gives some weeks two blocks of subjects instead of one. If that is more than you can cover, keep the order and give less time to the subjects your baseline shows you already know well.
Before Monday 2 November
- Find your baseline: answer a short timed set of mixed questions and note which subjects cost you the most marks. If one of them is scheduled late in the plan below, move it earlier.
Week beginning Monday 2 November: Business Law and Practice; Dispute Resolution; Legal Services
- Learn these subjects topic by topic, answering questions on each topic the same day.
- End of the week: a timed set mixing all the FLK1 session 1 subjects (Business Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution and Legal Services) at about 1 minute 48 seconds a question, because the exam presents them together in random order.
Week beginning Monday 9 November: Contract Law; Tort
- Learn these subjects topic by topic, answering questions on each topic the same day.
- One timed set of mixed questions drawn from the subjects covered in earlier weeks, so that they are revisited before they fade.
Week beginning Monday 16 November: Legal Systems (the Legal System of England and Wales; Constitutional and Administrative Law and EU Law)
- Learn this subject topic by topic, answering questions on each topic the same day.
- One timed set of mixed questions drawn from the subjects covered in earlier weeks, so that they are revisited before they fade.
- End of the week: a timed set mixing all the FLK1 session 2 subjects (Contract Law, Tort and Legal Systems) at about 1 minute 48 seconds a question, because the exam presents them together in random order.
Week beginning Monday 23 November: Land Law; Trusts Law
- Learn these subjects topic by topic, answering questions on each topic the same day.
- One timed set of mixed questions drawn from the subjects covered in earlier weeks, so that they are revisited before they fade.
Week beginning Monday 30 November: Wills and the Administration of Estates; Solicitors Accounts (in the context of Wills)
- Learn these subjects topic by topic, answering questions on each topic the same day.
- One timed set of mixed questions drawn from the subjects covered in earlier weeks, so that they are revisited before they fade.
- End of the week: a timed set mixing all the FLK2 session 1 subjects (Land Law, Trusts Law, Wills and the Administration of Estates and Solicitors Accounts (in the context of Wills)) at about 1 minute 48 seconds a question, because the exam presents them together in random order.
- Saturday 5 December or Sunday 6 December: sit a full FLK1 mock paper, both sessions, timed, with the break between them. By this point every FLK1 subject has been covered.
Week beginning Monday 7 December: Property Law and Practice; Solicitors Accounts (in the context of Property)
- Review the FLK1 mock paper question by question, and note the weak areas to return to in the final fortnight.
- Learn these subjects topic by topic, answering questions on each topic the same day.
- One timed set of mixed questions drawn from the subjects covered in earlier weeks, so that they are revisited before they fade.
Week beginning Monday 14 December: Criminal Liability; Criminal Law and Practice
- Learn these subjects topic by topic, answering questions on each topic the same day.
- One timed set of mixed questions drawn from the subjects covered in earlier weeks, so that they are revisited before they fade.
- End of the week: a timed set mixing all the FLK2 session 2 subjects (Property Law and Practice, Solicitors Accounts (in the context of Property), Criminal Liability and Criminal Law and Practice) at about 1 minute 48 seconds a question, because the exam presents them together in random order.
- Sunday 20 December: sit a full FLK2 mock paper, both sessions, timed, with the break between them. By this point every FLK2 subject has been covered.
Week beginning Monday 21 December: Review the mocks and your weakest areas
- Go through each mock paper question by question. For every question you got wrong or guessed, read the worked answer and the rule behind it.
- Spend the week on the topics where the mocks show the lowest accuracy, using short timed sets on each.
- This week includes Christmas Day, so it is planned as a lighter week than the others.
Week beginning Monday 28 December: First week of the final fortnight, for weak areas and timing
- No new subjects from here. Work on the weak areas identified by the mocks and by your practice records.
- Keep every practice set timed at about 1 minute 48 seconds a question, so that the exam pace feels normal by the weekend.
- Saturday 2 January 2027: a full FLK1 mock paper you have not sat before.
- Sunday 3 January 2027: a full FLK2 mock paper you have not sat before.
Week beginning Monday 4 January 2027: Second week of the final fortnight, to consolidate and prepare for the day
- Review the two mock papers from the weekend question by question, and return to the topics they show as weak.
- Keep to short timed sets on FLK1 subjects in the last two or three days before your FLK1 date, and avoid starting topics you have not studied.
- Check the details in your booking confirmation email (the test centre address, your report time and the length of the day) and the SRA's ID requirements. Plan food and water for the break, because the SRA says refreshments are not provided.
Week beginning Monday 11 January 2027: FLK1 (window 11–15 January 2027)
- Your FLK1 day falls in this window. In the days before it, keep to light timed practice on FLK1 subjects and get enough sleep.
- Once FLK1 is finished, turn straight to FLK2 subjects.
Week beginning Monday 18 January 2027: FLK2 (window 18–22 January 2027)
- Depending on the days you are booked into, your FLK2 paper falls between 3 and 11 days after your FLK1 paper, and the days in between are best spent on FLK2 subjects alone.
- Sit one timed set for each FLK2 session group, go back over the weakest FLK2 areas from your mocks, and keep the day before FLK2 light.
Exam technique for the January 2027 format
Each session gives you 2 hours 33 minutes for 85 questions, which is about 1 minute 48 seconds a question. A simple check is to have answered about 28 questions after 51 minutes and about 57 after 1 hour 42 minutes. If you are behind at a checkpoint, choose your best answer to the question in front of you and move on, rather than spending several minutes on one difficult question. Practise at this pace in the weeks before the exam so that it is familiar by January.
Within a session, questions from its subjects arrive in random order, so you may move from a company law question to a dispute resolution question and back. Mixed practice sets prepare you for that switching in a way that single-subject sets do not.
The 60-minute break comes after session 1, and the SRA asks you to be back within 50 minutes to re-register for session 2. You may leave the centre and use your belongings, but refreshments are not provided, so bring food and water. Session 2 tests a different group of subjects, so there is little to gain from going back over session 1 questions in your head. The break is better used to eat and to rest before session 2. A break taken during a session is unscheduled, and the SRA says the timer keeps running.
The SRA says Ethics and Professional Conduct questions can be asked in any subject area and therefore in any session. Expect them inside questions that are mainly about something else, such as a conflict of interest when acting for more than one party in a property transaction, or the duty not to mislead the court in a dispute. This is why the plan asks you to note the conduct points in each subject rather than leaving ethics to one week.
Using Lawdojo with this plan
Notes and practice questions for all 13 SQE1 subjects: 2,466 questions, an AI tutor on every one, and five full mock exams. In the trainer you can practise by subject or by a single syllabus area, with the timer on or off. The timer allows 1 minute 42 seconds a question, the pace of the earlier format, so timed sets run slightly faster than the January pace of about 1 minute 48 seconds. When you submit a set, you can read the worked answer to every question and ask the tutor about anything that is still unclear. The trainer does not yet build one mixed set across a session’s subjects, so for the end-of-week session sets, alternate short timed sets from each subject in the group. The free 25-question diagnostic, which needs no card, can serve as a first baseline, although 25 questions across 13 subjects give only a rough picture.
Each Lawdojo mock exam has an FLK1 paper and an FLK2 paper, so each mock paper in this plan can be one you have not sat before. The mock questions also appear in subject practice, so if you have already answered some of them, your mock score may partly reflect recall. Use the mocks mainly to rehearse the timing and the stamina of a full paper, and to find the areas where you are losing marks, rather than as a forecast of your result.
The mock papers predate the January 2027 change. Each is the earlier format of 180 questions in two sessions of 90, with every subject mixed across both sessions. With the timer on, each 90-question session gets 2 hours 33 minutes, which at 1 minute 42 seconds a question is slightly faster than the January pace, and the papers do not reproduce the subject grouping.
Try a real SQE1 question
This question is taken from the bank. Answer it to see the worked reasoning and the tutor. You do not need to sign up to try it.
A company's articles contain an article appointing a named member, Priya, as the company's solicitor 'for as long as she remains a member', and providing that the company shall instruct her on all its legal work. Some years later the company instructs a different firm. Priya, who is still a member, sues the company, relying on the article, claiming the company is in breach of contract by not instructing her. She points out that the article is part of the registered articles and so forms part of the s.33 statutory contract that binds the company. Is Priya entitled to enforce the article against the company?
Common questions
When are the January 2027 SQE1 exams?
The FLK1 window is 11–15 January 2027 and the FLK2 window is 18–22 January 2027. SQE1 is two assessments taken on separate days, so you sit FLK1 on one day in the first window and FLK2 on one day in the second. The SRA's results date for the sitting is 9 March 2027.
What law is examined in January 2027?
The SRA's cut-off for examinable law and practice in the January 2027 sitting is 11 September 2026, up to and including that date, so revise the law as it stood then. The SRA's proposed changes to the syllabus are on a later timetable and would first be assessed in January 2028.
How is SQE1 changing from January 2027?
From January 2027, each paper (FLK1 and FLK2) is 170 questions instead of 180, sat as two sessions of 85 questions with 2 hours 33 minutes for each session, which is about 1 minute 48 seconds a question, and each session tests a fixed group of subjects. Within a session the questions come in random order, and Ethics and Professional Conduct can still be tested in any session. The SRA says the proportion of questions in each subject area is unchanged.
How many mock exams should I sit before January 2027?
The full plan uses four full mock papers: an FLK1 paper in December once the FLK1 subjects are covered, an FLK2 paper just before Christmas, and one more of each on the first weekend of January. Spreading them out leaves time to review each paper question by question and to work on what it shows before the next one. Each full paper means two timed sessions with a break, so it takes most of a day.
What happens in the break between the two sessions?
The SRA schedules a 60-minute break at the end of session 1 and asks you to return within 50 minutes, because you must re-register for session 2 and a late return means you are not admitted. During the break you may leave the test centre and use your personal belongings. Refreshments are not provided, so bring your own food and water.
